　　Abstract

　　This talk gives an introduction to classical control theory. Basic concepts and fundamental results in classical control theory are discussed. The connections and applications of these concepts and results are illustrated with mechanical engineering examples.

　　林宗利 (Zongli Lin)，美国弗吉尼亚大学电机与计算机系Ferman W. Perry讲席教授、上海交通大学致远讲席教授。曾任航天部511研究所助理工程师、美国纽约州立大学石溪分校助理教授以及上海交通大学自动化系长江讲座教授。

　　林教授一九八三年获厦门大学计算机科学学士学位、一九八九年获航天部502研究所控制理论与控制工程硕士学位、一九九四年获美国华盛顿州立大学电机与计算机工程博士学位。目前研究方向为非线性控制、鲁棒控制和磁悬浮系统的控制。在这些研究领域中，林教授发表专著5部和学术论文500余篇，其中包括期刊文章250余篇。林教授曾任《IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control》、《IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics》和《IEEE Control Systems Magazine》三本学术期刊的编委，IEEE 控制系统学会非线性系统与控制专业委员会主任。现为《Automatica》、《Systems & Control Letters》、 《中国科学信息科学》等十余本学术期刊的编委、，以及Springer/Birkhauser《控制工程系列丛书》顾问编辑。林教授为IEEE Fellow、IFAC Fellow和AAAS Fellow。
